On the phone, the first time it notices an app it asks: switch once, or always switch for this app. Choose always and it stops asking.
On the TV nothing pops up over your show. Streaming apps installed on the box switch automatically as soon as Auto-Pilot is on, and you can turn any of them off under Account, Auto-Pilot apps.
Turn it on under Account, Quick settings. It needs usage access, which the app explains before opening Android's settings.
